Otherwise a password reset seems to leave you stuck with a randomly generated password.

Yes. First, log in with your provided credentials, then go to the My Profile, click 'Edit' just below the banner, and select 'Edit My Profile'. Click on the 'Contact Info' tab and change your username and/pr password. When the information is correct, click on the 'Update' button at the bottom of the page.

I've followed the procedure three times and the site does not recognize the change.

I have had the same problem. I asked for a temp password numerous times and it gave me one then the site would not recognise it. I finally got one that logged me in a few days ago and when I edit the password it lets you click on the button ( save changes) ? and it does nothing. Are you required to have upper and lower case and letters and symbols for it to be accepted or is it just reccomended for better security. I was going to show you my problem at the convention but since it was brough up I am posting it in advance.
