AKA Convention Kitemakers' Project
It's back! After an extended vacation, the Kitemakers' Project will return to the AKA Convention's auction this fall. Here's your chance to get some free fabric and build something cool, and it all benefits the AKA! In the past, this project has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the AKA.
First, here's what's available: Carrington 3/4 ounce ripstop, 41" wide. This is the Rolls Royce of kite fabric. I've got 3 yards of neon green, white, dark purple, silver, orange, Bermuda blue, dark orange, azure blue, turquoise, and flourescent pink. (Those may not be the official Carrington color names, but I'm trying to be descriptive.)
Now all you have to do is decide what you need and contact me at kitephilATgmail.com. Tell me what you're building, and I'll ship you the fabric. Cost to you: $0! You have until October 1 to finish the kite (although earlier is good!), and you'll either have to bring it to the convention or ship it to Enid. (And if you take free fabric and don't deliver a kite, you will be receiving a bill from the AKA, and may be publicly mocked on this forum.)
So make your plan, decide how much fabric you realistically need, and get in touch. Don't be greedy, take what you need and leave some for other kitebuilders. First come, first served.

Nice idea. Hopefully someone truly talented will take up the challenge and create a masterpiece for the auction.

Re: AKA Convention Kitemakers' Project
Hi, in the past we have seen some really great kites that were also put into kite making competition. Imagine bidding on a prize winning kite in the convention auction :- ))).

What about you? Your kites are fabulous!
This isn't a challenge for only one person, there is enough fabric for at least 6 kites, 10 would be even better.

Here's the first finished product for the Auction Project, a 42" rokkaku. Still waiting to see what will spring the minds and hands of Rob Banks, Ben Huggett, and Rob Pratt. And there's still fabric available if anyone else wants to build something.

Very nice kite. What's the detail on the flower?
Mine is in process.

The flower is a genuine fake clip-on sunflower, $1 at Michaels. I'm experimenting with mixed media again.
Also, the hair is based on Ron Gibian. The abs are modeled after my own.

When Rob sent me the pic, it wasn't bridled at all, so I don't know. We'll find out in Enid.
