Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
I seek experience advice on zero wind indoor flying. So far of three kites, Gomberg's Flick, Prism's 4D and the IFlite2, only the IFlite 2 has the ability to fly in indoor zero wind conditions to my satisfaction. It's been an expensive and not wholly successful effort to vary my exercise regimen in my community fitness center. The routine involves indoor kiting on alternate days to weight training for a retired person. I don't want to dispair, but in two of three cases, what I got was not what I sought. If anyone has additional insight on true zero wind indoor flying gear and technique, I'm all ears.

Re: Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
Hey Cap'n
this all depends on your mobility and flying space.....
If you have space you can get into the bigger kites that can fly indoors but will need more space like the Prism 4D, Ozone, ITW Echo, indoor Rev (these are specifically the multi lines)
for single lines you have a lot of options.....
as you found out already the iFlite II is a phenomenal one designed for indoor flying....you can also get into the standard iFlite sizes for smaller areas.....
then into some other ones:
Flying Wings Laima, Wala, Wala XL, Emong
ITW (Into the wind) Skate, Manta
for hand made pieces Karl Longbottom makes some great indoor flying kites like his Pterodactyl (two sizes for indoors) and his new 6-81....
ceewan has had 4 iterations of his standard sized Plutz gliding kites, and now 3 larger sized ones
Prism offers their Zero G - which is their version of ceewan's Plutz 3
Will Sturdy offers up a great one called the Chiroptera
R-Sky has the Bird'x if you can find one that does great indoors too...
LCVS in Montreal has their McBird
Anything that is made by Horvath over in Europe
Mini Serendipity & Siren from Windfire Designs
as well as the Rev UFO and New Tech AirYo are also great fun too
Just a few options....
my personal choices would be towards the Pterodactyls for a fun good flying indoor kite....
the Plutz family for real good gliders that are not deltas....
a Chiroptera for great flying gliding delta kite shape...
The McBrid, Bird'x and 6-81 for good indoor flyers that can handle fast movements
and iFlites for smaller areas or if the flyer has limited mobility and flown with a control rod

Re: Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
I had no idea there were so many options. Thanks for the roll call of these kites, I've heard of less than half of them. Looks like I'm going to be one with YouTube for a while.

Re: Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
Wow, what a lot of info! But, let's be honest, they don't all fly that well indoors.
A little too much info for someone who is looking for the "best" indoor flyer.
But, a good answer to the guy's question.

Re: Zero Wind Kite (Indoors)
A Skate is easy to fly. You may want to consider sticking to single line indoor kites, develop your "indoor" technical skills - as in moving your feet less while you fly. "Less is more" is a good thing for retired folks. Eventually try out a dual or Quadline kite. Best if you attend an indoor fly with other more skilled fliers to assist you in your quest to fly indoors.
Hope this helps.
