New Region 7 director
New Region 7 director
After serving the AKA for many years, Don Murphy has chosen to take a much deserved break.
Kevin Bayless of Salt Lake City UT will be the new region 7 director.
Please join me in welcoming Kevin to his new position and wishing him success. He has a tough act to follow.
Be sure to send him information about festivals and events in region 7. He will be learning how to send out a regional newsletter soon and needs information to fill it.

Re: New Region 7 director
Thanks Barb;
I am honored and surprised at this appointment, and will do the very best I can at it. I have been reading up on all the AKA stuff that I never looked at before in order to get up to speed on how things are run. Looking forward to great year, if there is something someone thinks I should be looking at, let me know.
Thanks
Kevin Bayless

Re: New Region 7 director
Good Luck Kevin,
Keep an ear to the ground and listen to you region's members try and work for them the best you can. It's not a cake walk being a RD. You will need to push membership and learn to be a team player if you want to fit in with the girls in charge. Oh yeah I hope you like e-mail
Best of Luck

Re: New Region 7 director
I have edited this post to remove the negative energy that was associated with it. The original post simply put was that I have an opinion and I would rather vote the opinion of the membership instead of voicing only my own.
Thank you for your input, I will use the comments in making my final decision on the appointment vote.
I would also like to request that when this matter is setteled that the thread be removed to give the region the fresh start with its new RD whoever that might be.

Re: New Region 7 director
I do feel that it's unfortunate that an post was made stating that a new Regional Director was in place when the AKA By-Laws clearly state the following:
"Section 9. Board Vacancies.
a. A vacancy of a Director-at-Large may be filled by appointment by the President with confirmation by the Board of Directors.
b. A vacancy in a Regional Director's seat may be filled until the next Annual Meeting by appointment by the President with confirmation by the Board of Directors. At the election following the vacancy, members of the region affected shall elect a new director to fill the remainder of the unexpired term."
It's my understanding that the Board has not voted on this matter yet and that the issue of Don's resignation was only brought to light a few days ago.
Personally, I feel that Barbara's post, in the least, taints the issue enough that the matter should be reviewed/tabled (leading people in Region 7 to believe that this appointment had already happened). The AKA is an "Association"... an association of members. As such it should be the members that are represented in these decisions. I don't feel that this I what is being done here.
I would encourage anyone with input on this matter to bring their views to the board so that they may be considered prior to the vote (which takes place in 1 day).

Re: New Region 7 director
It's always nice to make appointments to friends you can work with and who see things your way. Myself I feel the motion to fill the appointment should be tabled until the regions members agree on who should represent their region. Look at region one for example our past RD was named Regional Director of the Year and was voted out off office in a write in campaign this past election. Something tells me our leadership is out of touch with our members. Just my opinion from what I can see over here on the East Coast.

Re: New Region 7 director
The by-laws state:
Article IV Section 9:
A vacancy in a Regional Director's seat may be filled until the next Annual Meeting by appointment by the President with confirmation by the Board of Directors. At the election following the vacancy, members of the region affected shall elect a new director to fill the remainder of the unexpired term
The appointment was made after discussions with several members in the region. Unfortunately, you and I don't know each other, so you were not contacted.
If you are interested in serving as the region 7 director, I urge you to stand for election this summer. The nominations committee chaired by Kathy Brinnehl will be notified of your interest

Re: New Region 7 director
Barbara... you still seem to be specifically stating that the appointment is a done deal. If I read what you posted from the By-laws (and what I initially posted on bold from the same section), it's not official until the Board agrees.
I'm not sure who you discussed this with but I (and others that were not spoken to) are AKA members of Region 7. I'd think our input would be the most important when choosing a new Region 7 Director. As I mentioned, ultimatly its the boards decision but this does not mean that input cannot be had from Region 7 AKA members.
I frankly don't undersrtand why you are ignoring the fact (from the AKA By-laws) that this appointment has not taken place and that it is a vote of the board that makes it official. But it certainly does seem like this appointment is being done behind that backs of the entire region (and Regional Directors) with only one person making the decision. Is this how the AKA operates?

Re: New Region 7 director
In order to subscribe to a topic, I need to post a message... so...
Woody's "girls in charge" is a sexist remark.
Capt. Richard is performing his DAL duties well.
I don't know Kevin Bayless - yet - so can't consider myself as a count-me-in vote, until we've discussed as a Board.

Re: New Region 7 director
Sorry if I offended any of the girls ,lady's or women in anyway. I guess I was having a flash back from the last female president we had and what she tried to do to me. It still burns my a** when I think about it.
