YES!!! Kevin is our Regional Director here in the center of America, despite the encumbrances along the way.
I quote Linda above because I DID feel "unnoticed" Until this past year, when Kevin and I became good friends with the help of Facebook and several phone calls. Kevin has a passion for all Kiting, and the motivation to help us build a stronger Region 7, despite our main challenge of inconsistent winds (or lack thereof). Even having the worlds biggest kite retailer here in town did not get us far in building a Kite Community. Of course when I did not "sit quietly in the corner" I felt ridiculed and more isolated. My Kite Friends Kevin Bayless, And Scott Slater, John Barresi (& iQuad team) have given me lots of encouragement when even some of my fellow Local Kiters, the longer term ones seem to avoid me, if they haven't avoided Kiting itself. We do have a newer group of Kiters forming here, yearning to attend Monthly Flys, joining the AKA, and teaching each other sport kiting and quad techniques. I did get to meet Don Murphy in 2005, he's a really good guy. I didn't hear that much from him, even less last year. I was concerned that something bad happened, I'm glad to hear he's okay.
I really appreciate the support and advice that Kevin has given me , and was THRILLED when I found out about his appointment to RD.
GO KEVIN!

Re: New Region 7 director
Thanks Robin, Simon, Ron, Linda and everyone else. It is my sincere hope that we can move on with some kite flying and building the AKA in region 7. I have a rather large challenge facing me with this new responsibility and the help of others is gonna be my salvation in all this.

Re: New Region 7 director
WOW. I haven't even gotten on Facebook yet tonight!
This Sunday, Jan. 9th, is our Second Sunday Monthly Fly at Sandstone Ranch Park in Longmont Colorado. 50 percent chance of snow for that day. And I have to work
RMKA members Howard Bashant, Paul Glasspoole, and Alan Connelly have been attending our Monthlys, and setting up some other routine Flys , mainly at Thornton Trail Winds Park, which is a topic on this Region 7 category here. We have our Fourth Sunday Monthly Fly on Jan.23rd. at Clement Park in Littleton, in the park adjacent to the Columbine Memorial and Columbine High School itself. Kiter Mark Mugge and I frequent this field.
Kinda like Kevin makes the Patchwork kites and Curly Q Roks, Mark Mugge's style of kiting is flying Power Kites, mostly Foils, standing without a board or buggy. Mark simply likes the "Pull", and teaches anyone curious, how to fly the four line Foils, or his smaller "Trainers" I see Mark as the "Hybrid" example of "Today's Kiter", starting out with the Kiteboarders, then settling down and hanging out with us more traditional Kite Fliers.

Re: New Region 7 director
I miss looking around the shop in Boulder. I planned on stopping awhile back when I was on the way to Antelope island but it was not meant to be. The timing was wrong and we arrived in the area in the middle of the night. The next morning my traveling compainion who was holding on to the travel funds voted against the detour so we passed it up for the option of stopping on the way back. Of course that was not to be either since she decided we were taking the long way back and headed for New Mexico taking a very senic route. I must say I love to visit the area in the Summer but I prefer being a few miles from Galveston in the winter. Even sitting on the boat right now with the 40 degree weather is not that bad. THen again looking out on the snow from a nice warm house is a fond memory too.

Re: New Region 7 director
Apparently this means the the president is not willing to take input from the membership affected, unless she solicits it? Surely nothing is gained by an arbitrary decision, if a more democratic process is available?

Re: New Region 7 director
Kevin, Is THIS email address where people can send you stuff?
region7@aka.kite.org
Don asked us to send him news and pics for submission to Kiting, via this email address.
Do you have access to this address yet, and all of the stuff you're supposed to have access to as an AKA RD?

To Robin - answer? = yes. He may not be checking his section daily and I can't help it, being so far removed from the action. ;-)
So... write to him!
