Setting Time Zone
How do I set my time zone so that post times make sense?
I just read one of Shamrocky's posts that was marked as posted Today at 18:15:30, about 5 hours in the future.

Re: Setting Time Zone
This site is currently hosted in Houston, TX. I have set the site time zone to correspond (it was set to Pacific Time, 2 hours behind). Check the times going forward.

Re: Setting Time Zone
If you have issues, check your local computer and make sure you have your time zone set properly.
Macs: System Preferences>Date & Time > Time Zone
PCs: Control Panel> Date and Time > Change Time Zone

My system time and time zone are correct. I check the forum from several computers. It is an issue on all of them.

Re: Setting Time Zone
Most forum systems are able to allow each subscriber to set their local time as an offset to GMT. My offset, in the Eastern time zone is -5 in the winter and -4 during Daylight Savings time. This allows each user to see (in his local time) when each post in a thread was made. The setting is usually a part of the individual's Profile.
Either Agora does not allow for this, or the capability has not been "turned on" for the AKA Forum. Disabling local time for each member might be useful if the forum was intended to synchronize a large group to a single timezone (a large company in a single location with just a few employees in other locations), but less useful to a large group spread over many time zones in the US and elsewhere in the world, each maintaining their own time of day. It's handy to know by a quick glance if a thread is active right now, or whether there was a flurry of activity many hours ago which has now slowed down.
{ edit: checking the time of this post suggests that the "local" time for all members is set to PST }

Re: Setting Time Zone
Before logging in, the forum time listings had one time zone used (probably UTC). After logging in, the time zone changed, hence the displayed times changed. Agora has no time zone settings of its own. I'll keep investigating.

Re: Setting Time Zone
New forum software has made this issue more predictable. If you are not logged in, the time displayed is Central Time (US). If you are logged in, it adjusts to your local time.It would be clearer if the forum authors included the time zone as part of the display...

Re: Setting Time Zone
sitemaster,
Did you post that ("New forum software has made...") at 2:03 AM EST? That is what it says on my screen, with me logged in and my computer set to EST.
(edit) However my post shows as having been posted at 6:45 which is PST rather than EST. Something is still wrong.
