Workshop challenge, for $100 prizes
Announcing a fabulous new program designed to encourage workshops held during National Kite Month. This contest is open to everyone. Tell your local clubs, youth groups, community education, church groups, and anywhere people gather for fun.
The AKA Education Committee has put together a promotion for National Kite Month. We’d like to encourage broad participation in the creation of kite activities with education in mind by giving grants to groups who design a National Kite Month kite programs. The programs could be in schools, parks, community centers, libraries, churches, hospitals, scouts, 4H, etc. These programs could be workshops, demonstrations, presentations, etc.
We'd appreciate donations so we can increase the number of grants that we award. Most importantly, we're looking YOU to submit their ideas for educational kite programs so they can collect a prize. The details are below. Please send in a proposal to work with your local schools parks, community centers, libraries, churches, hospitals, scouts, 4H, etc. It's not only rewarding, it's fun too.
Grants:
Eight grants of $100 will be awarded to the best proposals. If more funds are available, more grants will be awarded. We recognize that it may cost
more or less than $100 to run a kite program.
Rules:
1. Using kites as an educational tool each person or group should submit an idea for a local kite program. The program should include art, science,
math, history, etc.
2. Only programs that are held during National Kite Month 2011 will qualify. The dates of National Kite Month are March 26th to May 1st, 2011.
3. Each person or group should submit their program to the AKA Education Committee. The committee will judge which programs warrant the prizes. The program must include how the funds would be spent, the number of expected participants, the location, the educational aspects, the leaders, the organization/school and the proposed date of the program.
4. A written report on the success of their program and photos of the activity are required. All entries will be posted on the internet.
5. The deadline for proposals is April 1, 2011.

Re: Workshop challenge, for $100 prizes
I would like to thank the AKA the kite education committee and the chair of National Kite Month for awarding me a $100.00 grant to help offset the cost of running the 8th annual 4th grade workshop. Once again it was a huge success 97 kids made and flew their kites and also received education about math history and science while having fun.

Re: Workshop challenge, for $100 prizes
Workshops such as this are exactly where NKM money should be going. In all, 6 grants were awarded. One to Wisconsin for a 4-H group of low income kids; one to Minnesota for workshops held at eco-fairs, one to Idaho where at least 3 workshops will be held, one to Washington, and the last one to Blue Hill Observatory.
Everyone needs a little fun in their life, and if messages about math, history, art, science, environment can be squeezed in also, so much the better.
Keep up the good work! Let's do it again next year.
