I'm pretty techie myself but, I don't have access to the source code for this forum so I can't fix it and besides it's no longer my job.
The unread messages function of this forum has never worked and neither does banging my head against walls so . . .

A new version of the forum software has been installed (3.0.146) that addressed this issue. In the change log, it says --Fixed, may need to mark all posts 'read'. --
