Kite Festival Info Sheets/Pamphlets
Kite Festival Info Sheets/Pamphlets
I'd like to sit down and write up an info sheet to take with me to kite festivals so that the announcers have a reference guide. It would be a booklet containing 10 pages or so of information. Thinks included might be:
Short history of kites (very general information just to provide some background and "filler")
Explaination of the different types of kites (SLK, dual line, quad line)
Kite Safety (power of kites, how/where to fly, etc.)
Specific information on what you might be seenig (different pages for things such as Rok battled, Bol races, etc)
Information on kite club
AKA info (of course)
I'm guessing people have probably already written up some information on these topics. I'm wonder if you would not mind sharing what you have. You could either copy/paste info into a reply or use the attachment option on the reply.
Or any info on this subject would be appreciated. If not clear... many times we attend events that have announcers. These may be kite festivals but some are not true kite festivals and even when they are, the person on the mic might not know much about kite flynig. The booklet would give them something to read from so that they can provide this information to everyone there.
I'm hoping to get a docuement done in the next week and I'll post what I write up.

Re: Kite Festival Info Sheets/Pamphlets
Seems to me that the late Al Hargus wrote up just such a booklet about 15 years ago. Dave Shattuck did a major update of it about five years ago. Look on the Publications page for the Announcer's Handbook, and I think you'll have a lot of what you need.

Re: Kite Festival Info Sheets/Pamphlets
I checked on that publication but it just listed suggestions on such things as how to announce a kite event. It was more of an instructional book. For example, it recommended getting a data and/or bio sheet. What I wanted to put together is a that data sheet. For example, it might have a page labeled Rokkaku Battle. It would then lists just a few lines of text explaining what it was in a simple to read layout. Something that would take about 30 seconds to read so that the announcer (a non-kite person) would be able to explain something about the event. Another one might be Kite Ballet.

Al Hargus also recorded a CD full of the stuff you're talking about. The idea was that any event could put it in, press Play, and not have to worry about the announcer. Now I've got to do a serious search; I think I have that CD somewhere around the workshop here.
