RAPTOR 20
I have recently purchased a 20ft Raptor By Joel Schultz. This was sold by the widow of a keen kite flyer but she did not have the instructions for it. I have sorted out most parts but have no indication on the orientation of the cross spar joints or how the central ties should be used and it doesn't look right when I assemble it. Please does anyone have details on this kite. I have tried Go-Fly-A Kite but they only have details of the 8ft.

Re: RAPTOR 20
Hello Arthur, I looked for Joel Shultz in our current membership list and evidently isn't an AKA member ,but maybe someone can provide you with his contact information. I believe he's still active in kiting.

And, looking under his correctly-spelled name, Joel SCHOLZ, I also see no current membership...

Re: RAPTOR 20
Hi Arthur, I have the 20' Raptor and I can send you a diagram of the framing
arrangement.Give me a few minutes to copy it to a file and I will come back and
attach it for you.
The Raptor is a great kite! and it has Great pull when the wind is up.
Look at my webshots for some pics.(see my profile for link and my e-mail)

Re: RAPTOR 20
I'm back Arthur,
I will attach 2 drawings below. I have always drawn diagrams of frames
and bridles of my kites, including spar sizes and fittings for future repairs
as needed.
For the Raptor I rebuilt the "spreader Tees" as a solid fiberglass assemble
and eliminated the rod and hose assembly.
I put colored tape on each piece of frame tubing so it is very easy to
assemble the frame in the kite.
The 'strings' on the back tie over the spreader spars so they will not bow
backwards.
This is a Big kite!!! and it can become unstable with higher wind, so
is best to fly it with 2 or 3 long tube tails. They help to keep it
on the wind.
Oh, BTW, always use a very good anchor before launching the kite.
Good luck, Roger
I was unable to attach the files to this forum.
Look at this link at the end of the Raptor file.

Re: RAPTOR 20
I also have one but my fabric is still bright and crisp. Roger has been flying his with his custom star tails so long that the last time I saw it the material was starting to fade. That brings up the point of buying a spare when we find a kite we really like. Hey,,,thats as good a reason as any to have duplicates..

Re: RAPTOR 20
I recently had the exact same problem...same kite, same problem, I was able to secure the assembly instructions from Into the Wind. Let me know your email address and I will send you the instructions in PDF format. Hmmm.... just noticed that I can attach the instructions here. Will give it a try. Hmmm ..that didn't seem to work. Anyway, contact me and I will get them to you.

Re: RAPTOR 20
Thanks to you all. What I need now is some decent weather here in UK and I shall be out there with mine. Looks like I was really lucky to get mine as it is in perfect condition, still crisp and bright, I think only flown twice about 5 years ago.
