Prizes and Perks for NKM 2012
The following are prizes to be awarded during National Kite Month 2012 as incentives to get organizers to register their events on the NKM website:
1. There will be a cash prize of $50 to the individual and $50 to the club that registers the most events within each week of NKM. “Weeks” will go from Monday to Sunday, and March 31 – April 8, will constitute the first “week.” There will also be a cash prize of $100 to the organizer (individual or club) of the most registers over the entire NKM period, March 31 through May 6.
2. This year will have a special emphasis on kids kite building workshops. Daren Henderson has donated a Premiere Luna Moth and a Prism 2.5 M Snapshot (power kite) to whomever organizes the largest kids kite building workshop as an event or part of an event during NKM.
3. To help foster events that include sport kiting (especially quad-line flying) those registering events that include stunt kite clinics or competitions will be put in a drawing. At the end of NKM the winner will receive a pair of custom made wooden rev handles by Mike Van Miers.
4. For additional promotion of kite events focusing on novice kite competitors, the first four competitions registered for NKM in which proof can be provided that four or more novices were introduced to kite competition (photos with names will do) will receive a $50 cash rebate on any sanctioning fees paid to the AKA.
5. Finally, to recognize the value of special effort on the part of the Regional Directors to promote NKM, a special prize for the RD with the most events in their region will receive a kite from myself. It may be one I make, or one out of my large but little used collection.

Re: Prizes and Perks for NKM 2012
We want to emphasize kite building workshops during NKM 2012. So, to further assist the kids kite workshop organizer there are a few perks available.
First, Scott Skinner and the Drachen Foundation have offered a 20% discount on their Trep-trap kite kits, a kite kit developed by Robert Trepanier and sold in ten-packs. They have established a special code to use (starting now through NKM) to purchase their kit kites for $1 apiece. I will give (via email or phone) the code to all organizers who indicate a kids kite building workshop in their registration.
Second, Val Deal of Premier Kites has indicated he might donate some kite line winders with Dacron line. If requested, and while supplies last, organizers of events with kids kite building workshops may receive a bag of winders sent to them if they register early. To request kits or winders first register your event, then send a note to me (admin at nationalkitemonth.org) identifying your event and indicating your needs. Please allow time for delivery.

I received one of those grants for my forth grade workshop. I'll be holding the same workshop again this year. I urge everyone to contact their local school and put a kite in a kids hands.

It took me a bit of searching to find this kit so, here's a link:

Cliff,
I was unable to determine if the workshop grant program was the best use of NKM budget. It seemed to me to target some very worthwhile activities, but they were few in number. As I am new at this and learning as I go, I'd welcome feedback here as to an appropriate way to spend AKA/KTAI dollars to get the maximum number of events to occur in NKM.

Re: Prizes and Perks for NKM 2012
National Kite Month is "in the books" and we have some winners.
Don McCasland and Archie Stewart will receive checks (please be patient) for the most weekly registrations, and Don for the most overall. (Archie and Don could be the poster boys for this event.)
Clubs who will receive money prizes from NKM are Rocky Mountain Kite Association, Pig's Aloft, Kites over New England and Hoosier Kitefliers. (I would like to know from each club who is their treasurer and what's his/her address.)
Region 1 had the most events by far, so Maggie Engvall will get a kite made by me. (I have a weird little rok I think she'll like.)
We are still working out the rest of the winners, and will post them when we do.
