NKM Kite Kits

I am in the process of collection information on workshp kites for teachers to use as part of NKM. I am interested in hearing about kites that are easy for the non kite person to gather parts and put on a workshp. I would alos like comments on kits that are available. I know alot of clubs and individuals have their favorites so lets gather the information and put it in one place. I also would like a general guideline as to the age of the participants for each kite mentioned. I have the sled plan that Marti and Richard Dermer has used for years and various samples of folded paper kites for the younger kids. We have a lot of experience to share so please join in. To make it easier to find please respond to this request in the NKM area.

I don't know where the NKW area is but...

A soft kite is the easiest to gather supplies for. Mini-mock, small pilot, pocket sled...all you need is fabric. Fled or Ghenki are my next two faves. Simple to build easy to fly.

Paper sleds are great for kids. They can color the design and be in the air in an hour, there are plans all over the place for that. Fighters are cool and the kids can have combat in a couple of hours.

Kite Kit's for NKM. Your right Rick there are many designs favored by each member. To say one is better than another is a difficult task . My suggestion is to offer a few designs and let the individuals who want to conduct a kite making activity select the one that works for them and their audience.
NKM is for all age groups, kits we suggest should accommodate all. Personally I think the kite designs must use materials anyone can find locally at hobby shops, home centers ,art supply stores,etc.
Not sure how many members follow this thread but I'm willing to draft "my" design and send it along to be part of a PDF offering.

There are five easy/inexpensive plans here: http://www.gombergkites.com/nkm/index.html

These used to be on the NKM site but were removed during one of the n"improvements".

Thank you David ,,,great source. Barb, I went to the NKM location,,,I found AKA kite plans ---links for many dif. types and difficulty levels--- Busted link 404 not found. Went to kites for intermediate level --- Busted link . Went to plans for experienced kite makers and more expensive kites --- link works but limited kite choices. Seems we need to fix our problem, unless I'm searching in the wrong place.

The NKM site will be hosted in a new place this year. It is in the process of being updated for 2011. You can preview it atNKM Preview. Once the changes are complete, the url nationalkitemonth.org will point to the same place...
