Re: Price rises
I work for a global health manufacturer and they have recently come to the conclusion that perception is everything. Many people I meet and work with are surprised that I fly kites. Many of them have a bad image of the act of flying. Charlie Brown with the kite in a tree or remembering how they ran themselves crazy trying to fly a cheap kite. Not to mention assembling them wrong or tearing them while assembling one. My wife is always amazed when I go flying many times I spend most of my time assisting parents with their childrens kites. I tell her I had a great time. There was a t.v. commercial that ran several months ago. I can't recall what was being sold, but remember snowflake kites by the hundreds being flown (might have been a little CGI involved). The point is many people I have spoken with also remembered the kites. Simply applying modern music that appeals to the younger generation makes anything look great and desired.
It is easy to capture anyone's imagination with the right video and music. The auto industry has become a master at it. Yes, we all understand the reason for prices going up, but remember VHS beat out Beta because they saw it was better to sell millions at a cheaper price and admittedly lesser quality than to be vanquished to a select group ( many studios and networks). Once you have the public's attention, pricing is not an issue. I still can not understand the appeal of beanie babies, but numbers are hard to argue with and they were not cheap. Many manufacturers have discovered it's not the main product that makes them money. Look at cell phones. It's the accessories where the game is. Line, lights, streamers, winders and even logos will always be needed after the initial purchase. The trick is making the initial sale.
