Maryland Kite Society 2013 Retreat
The MKS Kitemaker's Retreat will once again be located at the beautiful Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland on Friday through Monday, February 10 - 13, 2012. Visiting us from the Netherlands will be Bas Vreeswijk who will be teaching both a classic Edo and a kite with his novel origami appliqué. There will be other cool projects as well. The retreat is limited to 40 attendees, each with his or her own 8-foot work table. A special prize will be given to the first 20 registrants. Registration counts when MKS Treasurer Jon Burkhardt  receives your check made out to the Maryland Kite Society and sent to Jon at 10113 Lloyd Road, Potomac, Maryland  20854. Cost per person is $135.

Rooms at the Resort are $94 per night ($109 per night with golf course view) plus 11% taxes. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel at 410-465-1500 or 888-833-8873 and using our Group Code: 27Q7T9. The cut-off date for reservations at this price is January 20, 2012.

Mad Hata

This was designed as an attempt to produce an original looking kite. It flies well in most wind conditions being constructed in Ripstop and Carbon fibre and having a long ribbon tail. 3.2 m



Swan

Designed in October 2007; became a workshop favourite in 2008. It is a steady flier in low winds; an attractive and unusual white kite with orange/yellow and black detailing.  2.08m span, 1.22m high



Pipa

Based on the traditional Brazilian fighter, made from Icarex and Carbon. It flies with precise turns and arrow straight tracking.  0.9m high



Roller, Pearson

A popular high flying classic English design developed by Alick Pearson. These are made in ripstop and carbon fibre giving an improved wind range.  1.2 m or 1.5m



It sounds like there will be materials from the Kite Studio but maybe not pre-cut kits.  Karl advertises the Swan as an available pre-cut kit for sale on his website so if anyone wants to tackle that one as a kit it may be good to order it directly - I did that for a swan.
