[Rockport] Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio
Audrey’s Beach Day and Kite Fun Fly

The Coastal Bend Sky Pirates cordially invite all kite fliers to join us in this endeavor.

This is the fourth year of this event; it has grown vastly each year, started with about 19 families and last year had over 50. The main purpose is for the families of Downs kids to get a day just to enjoy the beach, sky, winds, kites, kayaks, food and fun on the water. We are getting an area roped off on the beach just for kite demo fly’s and for our "kids" to experience the joys of kite flying for themselves. We made the “economy” plastic kites available to them and look forward to it again this year. Several "pro" kite team members are coming to do demo flights; just entertain, and interact with these challenged children and their parents / siblings. Dano Wright co-ordinates kite functions and acts as “air traffic controller” contact for more info as needed.

[Edmond] A two-day family fun fly with games, music and kite making along with all manner of kites and kite flying demonstrations.

[Lincoln City] This year’s theme is “Oodles of Octopi”. A celebration of both professional and leisure kite fliers with some of the most colorful big “show kites” in the world. Come help us attempt to break the International record for giant Octopus kites. These huge inflatable kites, 90 feet long, look like the balloons flown in holiday parades. The original record was set in California, was increased in Thailand and then France, and was broken again in WA last Oct. when 20 of the giant kites were flown together. The kites are manufactured in New Zealand and owned by the individual "pilots". We are pleased to gather some of the best experienced and well known large kite fliers in America for this exciting flying extravaganza.

Mike & Judy Agner are from Wilmington North Carolina. They organize a huge kite festival there and perform annually at the local air show. Mike took part in the French Octopus record fly, and recently returned from a giant kite show in Kuwait. He has also performed in Columbia. Jeff Burka and Marc Bernstein are from Washington D.C. and appear regularly at larger festivals on the East Coast. Jeff recently returned from a kite performance in Thailand. He also took part in
the EPCOT/Walt Disney kite program. Phil and Barbara Burke are from Portland, Oregon. They are regulars in Lincoln City and also travel each spring to a kite festival on the Gulf Coast in Texas. Brian Champie is from San Ramon, California. He is a champion dual line kiteflier as well as a giant kite performer. His collection includes a 90 foot inflatable Gecko. David & Susan Gomberg are from Lincoln City and have organized giant kite shows around the world. Together they own Gomberg Kite Productions and have performed for Disney, major motion pictures, the Super Bowl and kite events in 25 countries. They were instrumental in creating the current 20 Octopus record in Washington State, and the previous 19 kite record in France. Dave and Karleen Hoggan and Mike North are part of the Berkeley Kite Wranglers. They a
