The World Sport Kite Championship Steering Committee was informed early
today that our partners in Malaysia have canceled the event because of
insufficient funds and lack of time.
Today’s news is not a surprise, but is a great disappointment.
The WSKC Committee only agreed to consider Malaysia again following strong
assurances from the local organizers. The state government officially
recognized the event and we received formal letters of commitment.
Malaysian Airlines committed to provide air tickets at a substantial discount.
We have been aware of developing problems over the past month and have
worked hard to keep this event alive. In each case, we were assured by our
hosts that progress was being made and that the event was still scheduled.
Finally, we were forced to set firm deadlines.
We recognize that the lateness of this news is a great inconvenience to
each of you. Please accept our sincere apology. We continued to work up
until the last reasonable moment because we were not inclined to walk away
without doing all we could to present a credible world championship event
for you fliers.
AJSKA, AKA, and STACK remain committed to organizing a world sport kite
championship in the near future. We are now accepting applications from
credible organizers and will be happy to provide terms and specifications
for this unique event.
Thank you for your commitment to the sport, and your patience and
understanding with this unhappy news.
If you require further details, please contact your Association leadership.
