[Cleveland] The Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites was founded in 1977 by a group of kite enthusiasts. Although the club structure remains informal, we elect officers to organize and oversee activities. Our main purpose is to encourage new kite flyers, share ideas, knowledge, experience, building and flying tips, and to have fun. Members range from eight to eighty-five. Anyone who enjoys the magic of kites is welcome to fly with us whether you are a member or not. Members of OSEK live in Columbus, Wooster, Medina, Youngstown, Mentor, Solon, Cleveland, Akron, Massillon, Canton, and small towns between! O.S.E.K. members have competed and participated in kiting on local, national, and even international levels.
COME FLY WITH US!
O.S.E.K. offers kite building workshops for area schools, clubs and groups. We present talks and demonstrations. We paint the sky with kites for park systems, community celebrations, and at the Cleveland Kite Festival in September. We also have our annual club members only “FLEXI FOOL Competition and Birthday picnic”. In April, National Kite Month, we can be found at the Youngstown Kite Festival, Medina Metro Parks Earth Day, Parkman Township Kite Day, and other places, as scheduled.
All requests for participation (workshops, demos, displays, kite flying) are presented to the members at next possible meeting and voted on. Due to an increase in requests and the limited number of volunteer members available, we regret we can’t cover them all.
At our monthly “free fly”, O.S.E.K. members share ideas, fly our kites, and socialize. We also hold brief, informal field meetings for business needs. Attendance is greater from April to September than during the winter months. Two Special meetings are held to discuss club business, one in March, which includes our annual Auction and election of officers, and the other in November.

[Cleveland] August 20 and 21 will find a field of kite flying fun and competition at Edgewater Park in Cleveland this year. Sponsored by the Ohio Society for the Elevation of Kites (OSEK), this is the 38th year for this event.
The public can participate in Wind Sprints, a contest held by age groups from 2 to 80+, with prizes for the first three winners in each group. Expert kite flyers will vie for awards in Mystery Ballet and each day ends with a Rokkaku Battle; big single line Japanese kites with contestants using skill to down their competitors.
This year we will be including duel and quad line competition for AKA points in the NorthCoast Championship
OSEK will also have children’s kites for sale. These are kites the club makes in workshops around northeastern Ohio all year. Invented by William Allison of Dayton, Ohio back in 1950, these “sled kites” as they became known, are better flying kites for children than the old paper kites ever were.
All events begin each day at 11 a.m., and continue until 5 p.m. Families are invited to bring a picnic, bring friends, and enjoy a day of outdoor summer fun. There are no admission or parking fees.

Professional and amateur kite fliers decorate the skies over the breathtakingly beautiful Nebraska countryside. The event is sanctioned by the AKA (American Kitefliers Association). Children and adults can enjoy the large colorful kites flown by our professional kite fliers. Visitors can bring their own kites or purchase a kite from one of our kite vendors. The event runs on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event is located just 4 miles SE of Callaway, along Hwy 40, at Foster Smith Field. [Two Rivers] The 10th Annual Kites Over Lake Michigan will once again be held at beautiful Neshotah Beach, Two Rivers, Wisconsin. This is now one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest and attracts kitefliers from all over. Come and marvel at the giant show kites, precision stunt kite teams flying dual- and quad-line kites, spectacular and colorful ground displays, running of the bols, and games for kids. Learn how to fly two and quad line stunt kites from the experts. There will be a night fly on Saturday night, conditions permitting. There will be something new at the beach this year, a pavilion, and it will be built just in time for the event. What is a stage with no music, right? For the first time, we will have a live band, Boogie And The Yoyoz, providing live entertainment on Saturday night from about 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm. This was made possible by our Title and Band Sponsors, Shoreline Credit Union and Fox Community Credit Union (fomerly RiverWood-Maritime Credit Union). Once again, there will be the Fireworks Show after the release of Sky Lanterns on the beach. We are looking for a record breaking number of Sky Lanterns being released this year. UFO will make them available for sale on the beach and the public will be invited to join in the mass ascension. On Sunday, there will be free kite making for kids and another day of kite flying and performances. Free shuttle service available to and from the beach to the Two Rivers High School (Lincoln Avenue/Hwy. 42).
Please note that there is not a specific schedule of the various activities for the kite festival, save for kids kite making on Sunday, September 6th, from 9am to 11am, because everything is dependent on the wind conditions at that time. We operate on what we call "kite time" and all activities are based on that. For example, if the wind is light, the stunts teams can still fly with their low wind kites but the giant show kites will likely be grounded until the wind picks up. Activities like running of the bols and glider drops will occur re
