Bethel Island Kids ‘n Kites is a one day family event sponsored by the Bethel Island Municipal Advisory Council “Parks and Recreation Subcommittee”. The event is primarily designed for children new to kiting as an introduction to the sport. Funding for free “sled” kites for each child is obtained from various grants and donations from area businesses. The day begins at the community center where each child receives a free sled kite kit and assistance in building and decorating their kite. The always reliable Delta breezes (keep your fingers crossed) ensure an afternoon of smiles after a short walk to the flying field. Children are treated to refreshments, music and awards throughout the day thanks to a variety of local clubs and service organizations. An area of the field is roped off for the “big kids” who are encouraged to bring their sport kites for demonstration or show.

Directions:

From Concord travel east on Highway 4 to the small town of Oakley. Just past town turn east on East Cypress. After a few miles a 90 degree turn has you on Bethel Island Rd. A few more miles takes you over the BI Bridge. 1/4 mile on the right is Ranch Land and the community center. Continuing on BI Rd. brings you to the flying field next to the post office.

Tax deductble donations to support the purchase of supplies for the event are always welcome. Owners of large kites are encouraged to come and give the kids a thrill.
