Description:
The Malmesbury Kite Festival is being organised as part of the Town’s celebrations to mark the 1000th anniversary of Eilmer’s Flight. In 1010 AD, a local monk, Eilmer, studied the local jackdaws, made himself wings, and launched himself from the abbey tower. He is reputed to have flown for more than 200 yards, making him one of the world’s first aviators. The kite festival will be presenting some of the best kite flyers from the UK and Europe.
